Permit Imprint FAQ’s
Permit Imprint is the most popular and convenient way to pay for postage, especially for high volume mailings. Instead of using precanceled stamps or a postage meter, the mailer prints postage information in the upper right corner of the mailpiece. This postage block is called an "indicia.” The Permit Indicia is printed onto each mail piece. - USPS
Bulk Mail that is processed with a barcode and sorted has its own special process. Whether it be a First Class Mailing, a Standard Mailing or a Non Profit Mailing; every class of mail has it’s own requirements and procedures. But most importantly: Every bulk mailing submitted to the United States Post Office needs to have a Permit Imprint, or Permit Indicia, on every piece of mail that gets scanned through their system. That is unless the mailpiece is being delivered as a Straight First Class Mailing and you prefer to use First Class Stamps.
Opening your own Permit Account is simple but requires an annual fee of $245.00.
Processing your mailing through a mail-house like CITYMAIL is even simpler. We provide you with a Permit Number so you can mail under the proper class, mail at a cheaper rate and mail smarter overall.
